Rodney E. Nathan’s distinguished career began with the foundation built through INROADS. In 1984, he joined the program as an Accounting Intern at Deloitte Haskins & Sells, now Deloitte. “INROADS set the stage for the corporate and community path I have followed,” Rodney shares. The experience gave him both the confidence and the clarity to pursue a career that would bridge corporate leadership and community impact.

After earning his degree in accounting from Tulane University in 1988, Rodney’s career expanded across multiple industries and leadership roles. He worked with organizations such as Deloitte, Duke Energy, and BMC Software before finding his calling in higher education. His ability to recognize and nurture potential led him to Houston City College, where he now serves as Chief Human Resources Officer. In this role, he focuses on developing people-centered strategies that drive growth, inclusion, and performance.

Rodney’s connection to INROADS has remained strong throughout his life. Beyond being an alumnus, he has served as an INROADS staff member, local board member, and National Board member, helping guide the very program that launched his career. His leadership reflects the values of mentorship and opportunity that INROADS represents.

He encourages current interns to approach every experience as a chance to learn and grow. “Every task as an intern is a learning opportunity,” he says. “Ask questions and be mindful of what is in front of you.” It’s a mindset that has guided his own success—and one he hopes to pass on to the next generation of professionals.
