Anil Punit’s career in healthcare economics is a testament to the power of opportunity, mentorship, and leadership development fostered through INROADS. His professional journey began in 2004 when he secured an INROADS internship with Frito-Lay in Orlando, serving as an Operations and Distribution Center intern. The experience gave him early exposure to large-scale business operations and the demands of leadership in a corporate setting. “INROADS gave me courage, made me brave and allowed me to see the goal of being a minority in leadership,” Anil shares.

That experience became the foundation for a career dedicated to driving innovation and improving healthcare outcomes. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Florida State University and later a Master’s in Accounting from Nova Southeastern University, Anil entered the healthcare industry, determined to make a measurable difference.

He began at Centene Corporation, where he gained experience in financial forecasting, claims research, and market growth analysis. In 2013, he joined UnitedHealth Group, spending more than eight years advancing into leadership roles focused on healthcare economics, affordability, and accountable care organization (ACO) network strategy. His work there included developing financial models, managing provider network programs, and leading initiatives that improved clinical outcomes while generating cost savings for both patients and providers.

In 2021, Anil joined Elevance Health as Director of Healthcare Economics. There, he leads affordability initiatives tied to advanced primary care and palliative care—developing analytical tools and strategies to improve quality of care for high-risk populations. His work balances financial stewardship with compassion, creating solutions that drive both performance and people-centered outcomes.

For Anil, the INROADS experience provided more than a first step—it shaped his vision for leadership and the responsibility that comes with it. He credits the program’s mentorship, structure, and community for helping him see what was possible. Today, he continues to build on that legacy by mentoring others and championing diversity in healthcare leadership.

Anil also shares practical advice for current INROADS interns and young professionals, rooted in the lessons that have guided his own career:

• Act appropriately. Conduct yourself with integrity and respect in every environment.
• Show up with intention. Give your best effort in all you do—your work should speak for you.
• Go beyond expectations. Be willing to do more than others; effort and preparation will set you apart.
