From INROADS Intern to Technology Leader: Cielo Orjuela’s 25-Year Journey at Dow Jones

Published March 2026

Cielo Orjuela’s journey with INROADS began during her time at Rutgers University (Class of 2000). Through the INROADS Internship Program, she interned with Dow Jones in the summers of 1998 and 1999 as a Programming Intern in the Client Server group. That early exposure to corporate technology and operations marked the start of a career with Dow Jones that now spans more than 25 years.

From her first role as a Technical Design Consultant, Cielo played a key part in business continuity and disaster recovery planning, efforts that proved essential during the 9/11 response. She later transitioned into publishing operations as Associate Manager of Global Layouts, where she supported the daily production of The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, and several magazine editions. Her ability to adapt across disciplines continued when she became Manager of Advertising Services, leading a call center responsible for $6 million in revenue while guiding teams through major shifts in the media industry.

Today, Cielo serves as Director of Operations at Dow Jones, overseeing a broad portfolio that includes Product, DevOps, SecOps, Governance, Resiliency & Stability, Cyber, and FinOps. She has also earned her CISSP certification and completed a master’s degree in Telecommunications Management from Stevens Institute of Technology, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning.

Cielo describes her career as one built on growth, accountability, and the development of others. Her leadership centers on creating empowered teams and ensuring reliability across complex systems, a philosophy that has guided her since her earliest days as an INROADS intern.
