For Rudi Lopez, his Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage is deeply connected to how he approaches business, leadership, and community. From helping grow Bachata into a global cultural movement to building his next chapter in real estate and financial education, Rudi has focused his career on creating opportunities that honor where he comes from while opening doors for others.

“My Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage keeps me grounded in who I am and why I work the way I do,” Rudi shares. “Both cultures taught me that hard work, family, and community are the foundation of real success.”

Rudi attended the University of South Florida, graduating in 2000. His professional foundation began several years earlier through INROADS, when he interned with JPMorgan Chase as a Controller in 1996. For Rudi, the experience provided much more than exposure to the corporate world.

“INROADS was one of the first programs that truly helped me understand the bridge between potential and preparation,” he reflects. “During high school and college, it gave me the structure, mentorship, and exposure I needed to see myself as a professional not just a student.”

The experience also strengthened skills that would remain relevant throughout his career, from communicating with clarity and purpose to navigating professional environments with confidence. Rudi credits INROADS with teaching him the value of mentorship, representation, and intentional leadership.

“The leadership principles I learned through INROADS still shape how I build teams, lead projects, and develop others today.”

Those lessons eventually became part of a career that extended far beyond traditional corporate spaces. As a cultural entrepreneur and creative leader, Rudi became deeply involved in expanding the reach of Bachata and Dominican culture around the world.

As a co-founder and executive with Island Touch, Rudi helped build the organization into an internationally recognized Bachata brand, producing tours, training programs, and media content that reached millions of people across more than 35 countries. Island Touch also identifies Rudi as its Managing Director and describes his work across music, dance, instruction, events, and cultural programming.

His work with Bachata became an opportunity not only to entertain, but also to preserve and elevate Dominican heritage.

Rudi spearheaded the first ADN Bachata World Festival in the Dominican Republic, connecting artists, dancers, cultural institutions, and participants from around the world. His cultural advocacy also led to collaborations with government agencies, including a meeting with the President of the Dominican Republic to discuss Bachata’s role in tourism and national identity.

One of Rudi’s most meaningful projects was his partnership with the Bachata Academy, the only institution of its kind in the world. He helped support its first concert and the development of a new dance center in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, creating a lasting space for cultural education and artistic growth.

“Bachata and the broader Caribbean culture have always reminded me that our roots carry power,” Rudi says. “What started as something local and humble has now become global, and that’s a story I see in my own life too.”

Today, Rudi is self-employed as a Managing Partner and is focused on expanding his real estate investment firm in Tampa, Florida. Although his work has expanded into real estate investment, community development, and entrepreneurship education, he says his commitment to the arts remains at the core of what he does.

His vision is to continue merging purpose with business by building companies that create both generational wealth and community impact. He is also developing educational platforms focused on teaching financial literacy and property ownership within underrepresented communities.

Long term, Rudi hopes to mentor the next generation of multicultural entrepreneurs, helping them turn their talents and values into sustainable careers that provide greater freedom and opportunity.

“It motivates me to keep building whether through cultural projects or real estate ventures in a way that honors where I come from and opens doors for those who follow.”

That sense of cultural responsibility continues to shape how Rudi thinks about success.

“I’m proud to come from people who create beauty out of struggle and find unity through rhythm, language, and love for community,” he shares. “That pride shows up in everything I do.”
