Building Experiences That Last: How Yvonne Unubun Turned Corporate Strategy into Creative Mastery
Published May 2026For Yvonne Unubun, the path to a career in marketing began with a single opportunity that changed everything. In 2008, as a sophomore at The City College of New York, she joined INROADS and began interning with The Limited Brands at Bath & Body Works in New York City. “After completing my summer internship, I gained the confidence to apply for more professional roles,” she recalls. That experience led her to a teller position at J.P. Morgan Chase by the fall—a pivotal step that sparked her belief that every experience adds value.
Yvonne credits INROADS for more than just an internship; it was the foundation for her professional mindset. “Being part of INROADS provided me with exposure and access while also preparing me to confidently step into rooms that I previously might have felt not ready for,” she says. Through workshops, résumé reviews, interview coaching, and mentorship from her INROADS representative, Sonia Ramos, she learned the power of preparation and presence. “She always reminded us to not only be prepared for our interviews but to bring our A game with our carriage and how we presented ourselves.”
That foundation propelled Yvonne into a dynamic marketing career spanning advertising, tech, and entrepreneurship. She built her early experience at agencies like Razorfish, Publicis, and Radancy, developing integrated marketing and brand campaigns for major clients across healthcare, finance, and education. Later, she joined Google as a Product Marketing Manager on the Grow with Google team, leading initiatives to promote career certificates in fields such as data analytics, project management, and UX design—helping individuals without four-year degrees gain access to high-growth, high-paying roles.
Beyond her corporate achievements, Yvonne channels her creativity and organizational expertise into entrepreneurship as the owner of Events by Mayven LLC, an event planning and production business that brings people together through memorable celebrations and corporate experiences. Whether in marketing or event production, her focus remains the same: creating meaningful connections and lasting impact.
Yvonne’s journey is a testament to confidence, adaptability, and continuous learning. She reminds current INROADS interns that “every opportunity is transferable and adds to your skillset.” Her advice is simple yet powerful: embrace each experience fully and recognize that every role—no matter how small—can prepare you for the next stage of growth.
Her story reflects the essence of the INROADS mission: to open doors, build confidence, and empower leaders who, in turn, lift others. Through her work in marketing and mentorship, Yvonne continues to champion growth, inclusion, and opportunity—living proof of how one internship can ignite a lifelong career of purpose.
