While attending Albany State University, Jeremy participated in weekly INROADS leadership development trainings and completed his INROADS internship with The Coca-Cola Company as a Finance Intern from 2005 to 2006. These experiences gave him crucial business acumen, leadership skills, and confidence, which proved invaluable in his early career. “INROADS profoundly shaped my career journey by providing an invaluable bridge between academic theory and corporate reality. As a 2005-2006 program participant, I gained much more than just internship experience – I received a comprehensive introduction to corporate America that continues to influence my professional approach today,” he reflects. “INROADS equipped me with a strategic mindset for long-term success, teaching me to anticipate and navigate various corporate scenarios, from complex project management to workplace dynamics.”
After graduating, Jeremy began his career as an Assistant Controller in a financial leadership development program at a dual-hospital system in Flowood, Mississippi. His passion for healthcare transformation led him to pursue an MBA in Strategy and Operations, focusing on Healthcare Innovation at George Washington University. While completing his degree, he consulted internationally. He conducted in-depth market research for Bioservo Technologies, leading to the development of SEM™Glove, which won the NASA Commercial Invention of the Year Award for 2020. He boosted market share by $ 70 M+ for a multinational medical device company by designing a future-ready model for their $4.6B global division.
Jeremy’s passion for healthcare innovation was fully expressed as Global Senior Manager of Strategic Innovation at Becton Dickinson & Company, where he supported the creation of the BD MiniDraw™ Collection System – a novel device that collects lab-quality blood samples from fingertips without phlebotomy. When asked what advice he’d give to today’s INROADS interns, Jeremy spoke about the value of resilience and embracing the journey that is uniquely yours:
“One of the most profound lessons I've learned is that genuine growth often comes wrapped in discomfort. When growth feels painful or mentally exhausting, it's not just a challenge to overcome – it's a deliberate process that sears valuable lessons into your psyche. These challenging moments aren't just obstacles; they're experiences being etched into your character, ensuring you'll not only appreciate your achievements but forever remember the transformative journey that brought you there.
It's crucial to understand that not every opportunity, no matter how promising initially, is meant to be your final destination. Sometimes, what appears to be a perfect situation doesn't unfold as planned. In these moments, remember that a "failed" opportunity might actually be preparation for something far greater than you can currently imagine. It's often the universe's way of positioning you for your next level of growth.
In today's rapidly evolving corporate landscape, where technology is reshaping industries and the diversity investment landscape is continuously shifting, it's easy to feel overwhelmed or discouraged. But here's the truth: what's meant for you will find its way to you. No person or circumstance can prevent you from reaching what's been prepared for your journey.
The most valuable insights in your journey won't always come from finding answers – they'll come from learning to ask the right questions. This mindset has consistently led me to discover perspectives I never would have found through conventional paths, enriching my discussions, strengthening my work, and deepening my understanding of complex challenges.
Remember: Your journey is uniquely yours. Don't get caught up in ‘what could have been.’ Instead, focus on what is and what could be. Your path may not always be straight, but every turn is leading you exactly where you need to go.”
