INROADS has been a cornerstone of Alex Villanueva's career journey, opening doors to opportunities that were previously closed.

“I would not be where I am today without INROADS,” said Alex. “My only regret during my undergraduate years was not finding out about this life-changing organization a lot sooner.”

Alex had applied to Cox Enterprises numerous times before becoming an INROADS intern, but never heard back. “The power of the INROADS brand and the exposure it gave me created my only opportunity as an intern,” said Alex. “I not only got my foot in the door at Cox but was able to create a name for myself that would be a catalyst for the early part of my career.”

Through the INROADS experience, Alex not only gained entry into the corporate world but also established connections and gained experiences that would help propel his career, Meeting INROADS CEO Forest Harper, delivering his first public speech at the INROADS Visiones Benefit in 2018, and receiving the INROADS 2019 Rising Star Award in D.C. were pivotal moments. He also the absolute honor of meeting Martin Luther King III and, most importantly, found a life mentor and friend in Luis Abarca, who has been a guiding force in his achievements.

“Luis is like a father to me and has witnessed and been part of many of my life achievements,” Alex said. “I can't thank him enough for investing his time in me and talking to me on the KSU campus almost 10 years ago. I am also so grateful to Myrna Garcia for everything she did to uplift Latinos through INROADS. God bless you always.”

Alex Villanueva's heritage and culture provided a profound sense of identity and belonging, inspiring his success. As a Puerto Rican, Villanueva carries the values of education and hard work instilled by his family. Through becoming an INROADS Visiones scholarship recipient, Alex was also introduced to the Hispanic business community in Georgia. After graduating from Kennesaw State University, he joined EY and his goal was to get involved and give back to his community. He organized an INROADS Alumni panel and joined EY's Hispanic business resource group (BRG), which allowed him to get engaged and expand his network.

“Through being part of EY’s Hispanic BRG, I was able to meet so many professionals across the US who helped pave the way for future leaders in our organization,” said Alex.

Alex also served as President of Hispanic Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs (HYPE), a division of the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, for three years. As the association’s leader, he focused on connecting, empowering, and developing young professionals and entrepreneurs through community, economic, and leadership opportunities. He even led the organization to grow its influence during a pandemic, partnering with Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and community partners.

This impact is vital for those navigating their way in Georgia, offering a sense of home and community for all.
