FOUR TIPS FROM KEYNOTE SPEAKER
JOY FITZGERALD
INROADS National Conference keynote speaker Joy Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at UnitedHealth Group, shared guidance on how to stand out on purpose today and every day.
STOP THE NOISE OF FEAR
The noise of fear is standing in your way, getting in the way of achieving your dreams. People give up on their dreams because the noise of fear is bigger than their faith. Stick with your dream and have faith in your ability to achieve it. People are successful because they are resilient in going after their dreams.
FIND YOUR DREAM BUILDERS
Surround yourself with people who will not only encourage you to go after your dreams but who have the experience, access and ability to help you realize your dreams. Surround yourself with people who will hold you accountable for taking the steps to achieve your dream. As Joy’s grandmother taught her,
“You can’t accomplish anything by being lonely.”
Avoid sticking out like a sore thumb. You don’t want to be memorable for
all the wrong reasons. You want to be memorable for all of the right reasons. When people leave the room, what do you want them to say about you? Align your actions with how you want to be remembered.
BE PREPARED
Exhibit stand-out behavior by being prepared and purposeful. Do your homework before job interviews, come to meetings with a clear agenda, and be intentional about how you show up. By being prepared and purposeful, you are positioning yourself to win for you.
